Adult Beginner Guitar Group at The Mount School

Always wanted to learn guitar? Now's the perfect time to start.

We're delighted to be launching a brand-new adult beginner guitar class at The Mount School, exclusively for parents and adults connected with the school.

Whether you've never picked up a guitar before or you've had a few lessons in the past and want to build a stronger foundation, this course is designed to help you develop the right techniques from the very beginning.

Meet Your Tutor

James has been teaching guitar for over 15 years and is the head of Kirklees Guitar School, which delivers over 200 lessons each week from its studio in Denby Dale.
 
Alongside his in-person teaching, he helps guitarists around the world through his YouTube channel and the Kirklees Guitar School Academy, focusing on practical, real-world playing.

As well as teaching, James is an in-demand session guitarist, performing with a variety of artists across the UK and Europe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any previous experience?

Not at all. This class is designed for complete beginners and starts right from the basics. If you've played a little in the past but want to refresh your skills, you'll also feel right at home.

Is this an adults-only class?

Yes. This class is exclusively for adults who are parents or otherwise connected with The Mount School.

Do I need to own a guitar?

No. We have a limited number of guitars available to hire, so you can start learning without needing to buy an instrument straight away.

What type of guitar should I bring?

An acoustic guitar.

How many people are in the class?

Places are limited to just 10 students, allowing everyone to receive plenty of individual guidance while enjoying the benefits of learning in a group.

How long is each lesson?

Each session lasts 45 minutes and takes place every Wednesday during term time from 5:30pm to 6:15pm.

What will I learn?

You'll learn the fundamentals of guitar playing, including chords, strumming, rhythm, technique and how to play your first songs, all taught in a logical, easy-to-follow order.

Am I too old to learn guitar?

Absolutely not! People of all ages learn guitar successfully. Many of our adult students are picking up the instrument for the very first time.

How much does it cost?

The class costs £13.50 per session. Classes are billed in half termly blocks.
